March 24, 2026 2 months ago

AerCap has signed lease agreements with Ethiopian Airlines for two Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighters, marking the first deployment of the aircraft type in Africa.

The aircraft, known as the “Big Twin,” are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2028 and are expected to significantly enhance Ethiopian Airlines’ cargo capacity.

AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly said the aircraft will offer around 25% more capacity than smaller twin-engine freighters, improving efficiency and supporting the airline’s cargo expansion. Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew described the deal as a key step in strengthening the airline’s cargo operations and boosting regional trade, as demand for air freight continues to grow.

The agreement reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ continued investment in modern and efficient aircraft to expand its global cargo network and maintain its leading position in Africa’s aviation sector.
