Dr. Fitsum Assefa Meets UNEP Africa Director to Boost Climate Cooperation

H.E. Dr Fitsum Assefa held a meeting today with Dr Rose Mwebaza, Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for Africa.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening collaboration between Ethiopia and UNEP on key climate and environmental priorities.

H.E. Dr Fitsum expressed appreciation for UNEP’s continued partnership and highlighted the climate actions Ethiopia is undertaking to advance sustainable development.

She noted the growing traction of the narrative positioning Africa as a source of climate solutions, particularly following the Second Africa Climate Summit, and emphasized Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts in climate mitigation and renewable energy development.

The discussion also focused on enhancing regional cooperation, including strengthened engagement through continental and regional platforms to advance shared environmental priorities.
