Netflix Aquires Ben Affleck's AI Filmmaking Startup
Netflix just bought InterPositive, a stealth AI filmmaking company founded by Ben Affleck in 2022, bringing all 16 staffers and Affleck himself aboard as a senior adviser.
The startup trains models on a production's own footage, then handles post work like relighting, swapping backgrounds, and fixing continuity errors.
Ben Affleck said he was shocked by how much engineering talent was pouring into AI video, "but no artistic, no filmmaking information whatsoever”. He emphasized that his company’s tech is “not generating video from nothing”, instead learning from the existing filmed shots and actors. On the JRE Podcast last month, he said he "can't stand" what AI writes, and that the tech would be more of a tool for production workflows.
The deal shows Netflix’s growing interest in AI-powered production tools, with InterPositive focusing on using a film’s own footage to enhance post-production tasks instead of generating content from scratch.
