Petrol Price has raised 132 Birr a Litre in Latest Fuel Adjustment
Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has raised retail fuel prices as the government continues a gradual rollback of fuel subsidies.
Under the latest adjustment, petrol will sell at 132.18 birr per litre, diesel will sell at 139.64 birr per litre, kerosene will sell at 146.14 birr per litre, light black diesel will sell at 137.03 birr per litre, heavy black diesel will sell at 133.45 birr per litre and aviation fuel will sell at 145.23 birr per litre.
According to the Ministry, the revised prices came into effect at 8:00 a.m. on March 10 and the new rates will apply in Addis Ababa and serve as the benchmark for retail fuel markets across the country.
Over the past two years, Retail prices have risen sharply and the increase continues a series of periodic price revisions introduced as Ethiopia phases out long-standing fuel subsidies that had previously kept domestic pump prices below international market levels.
Petrol was sold for less than 80 birr a litre in early 2023 before crossing the 100 birr mark in 2024 and moving above 120 birr during subsequent adjustments in 2025. The latest increase places petrol more than 50 birr higher than levels seen three years ago.
Ethiopia imports all refined petroleum products, exposing domestic prices to global oil market movements and foreign exchange constraints. Authorities have said the regular price adjustments are intended to narrow the gap between domestic pump prices and the actual cost of fuel imports while easing pressure on the public budget.
